We started because too many businesses were paying for contracts nobody had explained to them. That has not changed as a motivation.
Our story
Compare Market began in 2017, set up by people who had spent years inside the supply side of the market and had seen how little transparency most business customers were given. The first clients were independent operators who had rolled onto expensive deemed rates without realising a contract had lapsed.
The model has stayed deliberately simple. Understand the site, validate the data, tender the whole market, explain the result, then keep hold of the account so the same lapse never happens again. That last part is what separates a consultancy from a broker.
Today we support businesses from single unit cafes to multi site manufacturing groups, anywhere in the UK, from our office in Canary Wharf, London.

Mission and vision
Our mission is to make commercial energy buying understandable, so that a business owner can explain their own contract to their accountant without help. Our vision is a market where the default position for a UK business is a negotiated, monitored contract rather than a lapsed one.
Data before opinion
We validate consumption, readings and annual quantities before approaching the market, because a bad input guarantees a bad price.

2017
Compare Marketing Services Ltd incorporated in England and Wales, comparing energy contracts for independent hospitality and retail operators.
2019
Half hourly and multi site capability added, bringing manufacturing and care sector clients into the portfolio.
2021
Coverage extended nationally, with comparisons run for businesses across England, Scotland and Wales.
2023
Water management and bill validation launched as standalone services after recovering significant client overcharges.
2026
Relaunched as Compare Market, a national comparison platform for UK business energy.
